Maybe she’s on a photo shoot in Zanzibar. Maybe she’s making people laugh on TV. But all Chrissy Teigen really wants to do is talk about dinner. Or breakfast. Lunch gets some love, too.
For years, she’s been collecting, cooking, and Instagramming her favorite recipes, and here they are: from breakfast all day to John’s famous fried chicken with spicy honey butter to her mom’s Thai classics.
Salty, spicy, saucy, and fun as sin (that’s the food, but that’s Chrissy, too), these dishes are for family, for date night at home, for party time, and for a few life-sucks moments (salads). You’ll learn the importance of chili peppers, the secret to cheesy-cheeseless eggs, and life tips like how to use bacon as a home fragrance, the single best way to wake up in the morning, and how not to overthink men or Brussels sprouts. Because for Chrissy Teigen, cooking, eating, life, and love are one and the same.

I have always been a picky eater. I rarely ever buy cookbooks or put much stock into the recipes I see plastered all over social media because I have tried many of them and usually end up disappointed. I find a lot of cookbooks to be too "fancy", using a lot of unfamiliar or less-than-appealing sounding ingredients. I guess you could say I'm more of a traditional, comfort food kind of girl. So when I saw that Chrissy Teigen had made a book full of some of her favorite recipes, I knew this was something I could get behind.

I loved reading the introduction. Chrissy explains her lifelong love of food and cooking, and why she decided to put together her own cookbook. She has cute, funny little blurbs with each recipe too, as well as fun pictures of her, her mom, and John.

Some of the recipes are still not my cup of tea, but tasty inclusions such as John's Chili, Pepper's Scalloped Potatoes, and Chrissy's Mac and Cheese with Cheesy Garlic Bread Crumbs were right up my alley. There are still some recipes I haven't tried yet that I want to, such as the Secretly Spicy Deviled Eggs and the Cheesy Jalapeno Tuna Casserole with Potato Chip Topping. I really think there is something in here for everyone, and for just about any occasion. The only thing Chrissy doesn't tackle is desserts. She says it herself, she is not a baker so you're on your own for the sweet stuff, but you'll be so busy cooking up all of these amazing recipes you won't have time to care.

If you're looking for some yummy new recipes, I think you'll want to pick up Cravings. You get a lot of Chrissy's wit, some new foods to try, and fresh takes on old favorites.

  1. I've heard good things about this book. Mostly because I know people who really like Chrissy. I bet John's Chili is delicious. Why is she famous though?

    1. She was (and still is) a model. She was on the cover of Sports Illustrated a few years back. She's on Lip Sync Battle now. I think people like her because she speaks her mind and she seems pretty down to earth.
